Laserase Bolton, a leading medical laser and skin care specialist in the North West, has launched a competition which will see a lucky customer win a skin treatment for their Mum and themselves in celebration of Mother’s Day.
The competition, which is to run for one week only, asks people to send in a short message about why their Mum deserves a pamper treatment - with the most worthy being chosen on Friday 16 March.
Julie Kershaw from Laserase Bolton said: “Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to let your Mum know how much you appreciate her. Everyone loves to be pampered and so will your Mum – but better still you get to join in too!”
After a skin consultation, the winners will be treated to a laser treatment most suited to their skin type– this could be to refresh the skin or treat a specific problem such as fine lines and wrinkles.
The competition is online now and closes on Thursday 15 March at 5pm. For more information and to enter the competition, visit the website at http://laserase-bolton.co.uk/

As Christmas is fast approaching, many people will be putting together their lists for Santa, and that could include a home laser hair removal kit.
These appliances are causing concern to professionals who believe that DIY appliances are neither as effective nor as safe as professional clinic treatments.
Laserase Bolton, a leading skin care and medical laser specialist in the North West, is urging consumers to consider buying clinic treatments as a gift rather than a DIY appliance that could cause them permanent damage if not used correctly.
Dr. Kiran Patel, Medical Director at Laserase Bolton, has been a qualified laser practitioner since 1994. He said: “Home appliances may be a cheaper option for most, but if used incorrectly then the damage caused can be irreparable and cost you a lot more in the long run.”
Using appliances to remove eyebrow hair, for example, can cause serious damage to your eyes and despite the lasers not being as powerful as ones used in clinics, there’s a higher risk of users burning their skin. Not only this, but the lasers used in home devices are a lot less effective than professional ones, and therefore hair removal is less permanent.
Dr Patel added: “If you attend a clinic, you will get a consultation from a fully qualified and licensed practitioner who will be able to answer any questions you may have about the treatment.
“There is also a much reduced risk of any damage from the treatment, and after the recommended amount of sessions, hair removal is more efficient.”
Laserase Bolton is currently offering deals on many treatments over November and December in the lead up to Christmas, with laser hair removal at just £20 a session for the first three sessions. If you would like to book a free consultation, contact Laserase Bolton on 01204 570900 or email your query to admin@laserase-bolton.co.uk.

Having a smooth and soft body is a beauty must for most women and 36 year old Liz who lives in Hutton near Preston is no exception. “I go swimming with the children quite a lot and have regular holidays and so keeping my body hair free is quite important.”
To maintain a silky body Liz has tried laser treatment in the past but found it too painful to have on a regular basis and so she waxed her excess hair.
“The problem with waxing is that I have to do it every couple of months and I didn’t feel it was doing my skin any good – sometimes I lost more skin than hair,” she said.
When a friend told Liz about a painfree laser available at Laserase Bolton she was a bit sceptical. “After previous laser treatments that were really painful I was a bit nervous about trying laser again – but I am so glad I did. The results are fantastic and better still there was no pain or discomfort.”
Laserase Bolton used the Soprano laser on Liz’s bikini line. The Soprano has powerful pulses which are not detected by the sensory nerve endings which mean a reduction in the amount of discomfort clients feel. It works by selectively targeting the hair in its follicle and destroying the base of the hair to prevent it re-growing. It can treat all hair types and all skin types and is particularly good for darker skin or for those people with course hair.
Sue Trevaskiss from Laserase said: “Intense pulsed light or (IPL) hair reduction and traditional pulsed lasers have been around for many years but the technology around it has vastly improved. Laserase Bolton was one of the first clinics to use this super fast laser which offers hair removal without the discomfort traditionally associated with laser treatments.”
After just one treatment Liz lost 30% of the hair and has to have just a few more treatments to complete the course. “I just felt a warmth as the laser did it’s stuff,” she said. “It was quick, painless and effective and better still the hair is gone for good so no more waxing for me!”
And it wasn’t just Liz who decided to try the new laser. She took along her 64 year old Mum Ann who has been plagued by excessive hair for most of her life.
“I have very dark hair which means my body hair is quite coarse and thick,” said Ann. “I really hate my hairy legs and have been waxing all my life.
“I decided to offer moral support to Liz and went along with her to the clinic. I tried the Soprano laser on the back of my legs and the results are fabulous.
“I’m going to have the treatment on other areas of my body and say goodbye to this dark hair for good.
“I’m just sad they didn’t have this technology years ago but at least the younger women in our family won’t have to suffer like I did – we are all laser converts now.”
If you want to eliminate excessive facial or bodily hair then contact admin@laserase-bolton.co.uk or call 01204 570 900 to make an appointment for a free consultation.

According to skin expert Dr Kiran Patel, the best kindest thing you can ever do for your skin is to protect it from the sun.
“The evidence against the sun continues to amass,” he said. “The more knowledge we have the more we understand just how damaging sunlight can be to the skin.
“It’s easy to see this for yourself. Look at how soft, smooth and wrinkle free the skin on your bottom is. That’s because - unless you are a nudist - your bum tends to be covered up for most of your life!”
Kiran says that in order to maintain and improve skin health, advanced skincare products which are not available on the high street – can have the best results.
“Look for brands which use pure, pharmaceutical grade ingredients with formulations based on optimal concentrations of active ingredients,” he said. “These products tend to be available by private prescription or in private clinics.
“For example, here at Laserase we use the Heliocare SPF 50 from Aestheticare which has an SPF of 50. It has a strong reputation with the medical community through dermatologists, plastic surgeons and laser clinics.”
Whilst these specialist products are not budget brands they are similarly priced to the higher brand products available on the high street - prices start from £21 for 50ml.
“The most important advice for anyone looking to protect their skin or prevent further damage is to stay out of the sun,” adds Kiran. “If you do go into the sun use the highest factor cream available and ensure you use cosmetics that have sun protection built it.
“The sunshine may make you feel good by triggering the production of serotonin – but in reality it’s causing your skin a great deal of damage.”
Heliocare products are available to purchase from Laserase North West. Go to www.laserasenorthwest.com for more information or call 01204 570900 or email admin@laserase-bolton.co.uk.

Summer is here and tabloid newspapers and magazines are awash with images of celebrities on holiday. If you’ve ever wondered how ‘celebs’ manage to look so smooth and sleek in their swimwear, Dr Kiran Patel from the Laserase clinic network can you let you into a little secret.
“Laser hair reduction is one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures in the UK because of its efficacy and value for money,” he said. "The British cosmetic market tends to replicate what is happening in the US and a recent report from there suggests treatments like this are on the rise.”
According to a report from The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) the number of cosmetic surgery treatments carried out in 2009 has dropped. However, minimally invasive procedures such as laser hair removal are on the increase.
Intense pulsed light or (IPL) hair reduction has been around for many years but the technology around it has vastly improved. In this region, Laserase North West was the first clinic to offer a revolutionary medical laser - the Soprano Super HR. This super fast laser offers hair removal without the discomfort traditionally associated with laser treatments.
“The Soprano has powerful pulses which are not detected by the sensory nerve endings which mean a reduction in the amount of discomfort clients feel,” said Dr Patel. “The Laser works by selectively targeting the hair in its follicle and destroying the base of the hair to prevent it re-growing. It can treat all hair types and all skin types and is particularly good for darker skin or for those people with course hair.”
Having smooth legs and under arms is a beauty must for most women on the beach but excessive hair can be a medical problem for some and Dr Patel advises that laser treatment could be the best method of treating this persistent problem which can cause immense embarrassment.
Laserase is one of the largest networks of medical centres in the UK. All treatments are carried out by fully qualified doctors and nurses and is regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

With the World Cup fast approaching a laser specialist has warned against football fans getting carried away ‘in the heat of the moment’.
“It’s not uncommon for football fans to have their allegiance to a particular football club or even a player tattooed on their body,” said Dr Kiran Patel, a specialist with Laserase Bolton, part of the largest network of laser medical centres in the UK.
“However, what may seem like a great idea when your club is doing well or when a player is something of a hero – can very quickly turn to embarrassment when the club fails or the player leaves,” he said.
Recently a Manchester City fan was left red-faced after having a tattoo on his arm proclaiming the club as European champions. But Kirk Bradley is not alone in having a tattoo nightmare.
“We regularly see clients who come asking to have their football tattoo removed,” said Dr Patel. “It can be quite a quick change of mind, when the club fail to win a title as in Kirk’s case – or it could take some time before they fall out of love with the club or the player that was a hero in their youth. A certain Mr Cantona was high in the removal stakes a few years ago!”
Tattoo removal is one of most popular treatments at Laserase which has the only purpose built laser clinic in the country. Whilst tattoos can be inked in a relatively short space of time, removing one can take months. The number of sessions depends on the number of colours used and the size of the tattoo, but having a tattoo removed by laser is one of the most effective ways to permanently remove it.
“There is always a story around the removal of any tattoo,” said Dr Patel. “With the football ones, we can usually guess right away what it is!”

If you are one of the many people who fail to stick to their New Years resolution and are tiring of diet gimmicks and failed attempts at weight loss, don't get frustrated - there is hope in sight. A Bolton clinic is taking a new approach to weight loss and best of all there is not a diet sheet in view. In a few months you really could be ready to wear that bikini.
Dr Sheena Bedi is a GP and one of the team involved in the ABL Weight Management Programme which takes a fresh new approach to not only losing weight but maintaining it.
"Specialists working in this field now recognise that in order for weight loss to be sustained it's important that people get to the root of why they put on weight in the first place," she said. "This could be due to boredom or a whole range of psychological issues that people may not recognise as playing a part in their weight problem."
ABL Weight Management uses a team of experts to help people in their quest to get healthy. Initially the client will have a one to one session with a nurse or weight loss coach who will talk to them in detail about their lifestyle and eating habits. Next they will chat to a psychologist to learn about any underlying issues that may be responsible for weight gain and that could deter the client from losing weight or keeping it off.
Research shows that people do better when they are part of a group programme and whilst people can work individually if that's what they prefer, Dr Bedi says being part of a group with the same goals has a much better success rate.
"Our clients work in groups and are encouraged to keep in touch with each other so that if they feel the urge to do something that they know is unhealthy, their peers can talk them out of it. In addition, part of the programme involves exercise but not necessarily in gyms, and the group is encouraged to meet and enjoy gentle exercise together.
"This could be a long walk, joining a dance class or going for a swim. The trick is doing something they enjoy and can do in their own time and at their own pace."
Clients meet their specialist team on a regular basis and work with a nutritionist who develops a change of diet that reflects their personal taste and lifestyle.
The programme runs for 6 months and during that time clients may meet with GPs, nurses, psychologists, a weight loss coach and exercise specialists.
But is this just another fad?
"Not at all," says Dr Bedi. "This approach to weight loss is approved by NICE and is becoming the accepted way for sustained weight loss and a healthy new lifestyle. We know it works because ABL is already working with a local PCT to treat almost 230 morbidly obese patients with this multidisciplinary approach."
Now we are expanding our client base to help both private and NHS clients.
Being over-weight has serious health implications which is why the Government is looking at different ways to tackle the problem. It can cause diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, osteoarthritis, gall bladder disease, cancer and impaired fertility.
"Essentially ABL supports anyone looking to lose weight by providing a multidisciplinary approach with a whole host of qualified health practitioners and experts," said Dr Bedi. "It's not about going on a diet, it's about reviewing your current eating habits and lifestyle to achieve sustainable weight loss and life long change."
For more information about the ABL Weight Management Programme contact Dr Bedi on 01204 570900.

When Bilal Ahmed converted to Islam ten years ago he knew that he was making a massive commitment of faith, but love of his new religion has required him to make other rather more physical commitments.
Bilal, who is from Atherton near Leigh, had a tattoo of a skull inked onto his shoulder when he was 25 years old. At 45, it was something he regretted, particularly since he had plans to go on pilgrimage to Mecca next year, an annual trip that hundreds of thousands of Muslims make at least once in their lifetime.
During the pilgrimage I need to wear traditional clothing called an ihram two pieces of cloth that will leave my shoulders and tattoo exposed, said Bilal.
Depictions of human forms are not allowed in Islam, but since Bilal had the tattoo inked before his conversion, removal was not obligatory.
"I certainly haven't been forced to get rid of it," said Bilal. "But I know that I'll feel much better without it, and certainly less embarrassed while on such an important pilgrimage."
Bilal made an appointment at skincare specialists Laserase Bolton several months ago where a qualified medical professional assessed him and advised how many treatments he would need. The number of sessions depends on the number of colours used and the size of the tattoo, but having a tattoo removed by laser is one of the most effective ways to permanently remove it.
After just eight sessions, Bilal is delighted with the results. "I really didn't think it would be effective. I knew it would fade, but I've been amazed by the results in fact all of my friends and family have, you wouldn't even know that I'd had a tattoo.
Another misconception I had was that it would be extremely painful, but it?s a lot less painful that having a tattoo inked."
Bilal now has just one more session left at Laserase Bolton and is looking forward to preparing for his pilgrimage without the worry of being embarrassed.

Around 80% of people in the UK will suffer from acne at some point in their lives with the majority developing it in their teens. 13 year old Katie Brown* from Chorley put up with the problem for over two years before discovering the solution lay at a local clinic. She hasn't looked back since.
Katie first began to break out in spots when she was 11 and about to begin her first year at High School. It couldn't have come at a worse time.
I was about to go to secondary school where I'd be meeting new people and making new friends, so I can definitely say that it wasn't good timing said Katie. To make matters worse, I'd just had braces fitted and so I was already a little self-conscious about my appearance.
The skin condition began with a few spots but quickly spread, with breakouts that covered Katie's face and parts of her body too. Katie's mother, Gillian, tried a range of treatments and spent a fortune on products in an effort to get rid of the spots. I tried hundreds of products from Clearasil to Quinoderm and even an infra-red light which I had to hold over spots, explained Gillian. Some of the treatments worked temporarily, but then another breakout would occur and the spots would be as bad as ever.
Despite suffering from acne, Katie was determined not to let it bother her. She just isn't the sort of girl that would something like that affect the way she lives, said her mother, Gillian. She never complained or got upset, at least not in front of me, and she went to school and socialised with her friends as normal.
I really think she's amazing, there can't be too many people that would put on such a brave face and get on with things.
Earlier this year Gillian heard about a local clinic in Bolton, Laserase North West, that offers treatments for acne sufferers. Laserase uses an NLite laser, described as one of the most significant advances in acne treatment for decades.
It is a safe, fast and effective procedure without any side effects and works by killing the bacteria that causes the infection. NLite also has a collagen replenishment application, which helps repair the damage caused by the infection and reduce scarring.
We thought it was worth a go, said Gillian. We'd tried everything else and so the laser treatment really was a last resort.
After the first session, Katie's acne appeared to get worse but once she had had the subsequent peel and second treatment there was a noticeable improvement.
The spots that once covered the whole of Katie's face have now been reduced to her chin. Breakouts of spots also occur rarely whereas they used to flare up daily in the past.
Katie and her mum are both delighted with the results. We're really happy that the treatment has been so effective, said Gillian. It's great that there has been no reaction to the treatment and that it was completely pain-free too.
Katie has had only two NLite laser sessions and two skin peels to date but the difference is remarkable. Katie and her mother will now continue to monitor her skin to check that the acne is gone for good.
Laserase has been brilliant, added Gillian. From start to finish they've been so supportive and have made Katie feel at ease. It is early days but we're really hopeful that we've finally said goodbye to acne.

Proud father George Jackson won't have to worry about his unsightly tattoos being on show next month when he poses for photographs at his son's wedding.
After winning a Bolton News competition to have the tattoos removed professionally at skincare specialists Laserase last year, George is delighted he can finally show off his tattoo free arms.
George, aged 51 and from Halliwell, has had 12 sessions at Laserase to remove tattoos that he inked himself when he was at school. The treatment can be a lengthy process, with sessions repeated every 4-6 weeks to allow skin to heal and prevent scarring. Although George will need another 2 sessions before he is completely tattoo-free, the results so far have been brilliant.
"I'm absolutely over the moon with the treatment I have had at Laserase," said George. "You have to be very close up to see any remnants of the tattoos and my family can hardly spot them, so I'm certain they won't be on any of the wedding photos."
The home-made tattoos included initials of his wife and ex-girlfriends, phone numbers and even a ring around one of his fingers. All were inked at different stages over several months, but George went on to regret his handiwork years later.
George says the removal treatment wasn't painful and describes the sensation as having an elastic band flicked against his skin.
Denise Leslie of Laserase North West said: "We're delighted that the tattoo removal treatment is working so successfully for George especially as he has such a big day coming up.
Generally tattoos that people create themselves are easier to get rid of than professional tattoos as the ink does not go as deep. George's tattoos were mostly a bluish black which again responds particularly well to laser treatment.
Laserase uses a Q-switched ruby laser which works by breaking down the tiny particles of tattoo pigment which are then targeted by the body's own immune system and removed. Because the energy is selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment, there is no lasting damage to the skin.
George said: "Now I won't have to feel embarrassed about my tattoos. I can finally show off my hands and arms with pride and hopefully make my son really proud on his wedding day."
If you have a tattoo that you would like removing Laserase North West is offering a FREE consultation until the end of July.
"Unfortunately any tattoo will take a lot longer to remove than it did to put on," warns Denise. "A Laserase specialist will assess the size and colours used and give an honest appraisal of how long it will take to be successfully removed and how effective it will be."
Contact Laserase on 01204 570900 to make an appointment for your free consultation before end of July.

North West skincare clinic Laserase Bolton has welcomed today's launch of the Care Quality Commission, a new government body that will regulate the safety and quality of health services.
The Care Quality Commission has been formed following a merger of the Healthcare Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection and the Mental Health Act Commission and will have greater powers than those it is replacing. From 2010/11 it will register all providers of health services against a single set of registration requirements so that without registering it will be illegal for health organisations to provide services.
The Care Quality Commission will bring better regulation to ensure that the health care people receive is safe and of high quality, said Denise Leslie of Laserase Bolton. There are far too many cowboys operating in the cosmetic industry and so these registration requirements should force them to meet these new standards.
To maintain their registration, health organisations will need to demonstrate an ongoing ability to meet all the requirements.
In the hands of unqualified staff, the laser can be an extremely dangerous tool, said Denise. That is why the establishment of this new regulatory body and its framework to better protect patients is so important.
My advice for anyone considering cosmetic or aesthetic procedures is to ensure that you get accurate information about what the procedure entails, what the side-affects or risks could be and after-care.
You should also ask to see the medical qualifications of the person treating you and make sure the clinic takes a very thorough medical history from you in your first consultation. And remember to take as long as you like to make a decision before going ahead with any treatment.

Skincare specialists Laserase Bolton are offering a free consultation, plus 40% off the first two treatments if you book between now and 5 April. Treatments at the clinic range from skin rejuvenation to body contouring and hair removal.
Denise Leslie from Laserase Bolton said: "If you look good you feel good! We thought we should give mums an incentive to treat themselves for a change! And it's definitely a good alternative for sons and daughters to treat their mum to something other than the typical box of chocolates or bunch of flowers."
Laserase Bolton, based in the grounds of Royal Bolton Hospital, has been providing a range of laser treatments for the last 15 years which are performed by experienced medical professionals.

North West skincare clinic Laserase Bolton has welcomed eBay's decision to remove illegal Botox adverts from its website.
Sixteen companies and individuals were found advertising the prescription-only-medicine to the public, with many unaware they were breaking the law.
Adverts offered discount vouchers for Botox treatments and encouraged people with 'introduce-a-friend' offers. Following a complaint by Which, eBay has now agreed to withdraw these promotions to protect consumers.
Denise Leslie, owner of Laserase North West the country's only purpose built laser clinic, said: "As the number of Botox treatments performed in the UK increases, more people are tempted to have a 'quick' procedure at an unsafe location, such as a party.
"It's vital however that patients undergo a thorough consultation beforehand, preferably at a clinic registered with the Healthcare Commission, and treatment should only be carried out by a fully-qualified practitioner.
"Our biggest fear with the adverts was that many people would suffer serious side effects from treatments due to lack of a proper consultation, so we're delighted that ebay has listened to complaints and removed them.
"Although Botox treatments are becoming more commonplace, they are not a suitable way of reducing facial lines for everyone. There are alternative methods that Laserase recommends including Nlite and Pixel laser treatments which also stimulate skin regeneration."
